Nebuchadnezzar's Great Image

Also known as Nebuchadnezzar's Dream Image · The Great Image · The Terrible Image · The Immense Image · The Metallic Image · Daniel's Image · The Image of Daniel Chapter Two
Nebuchadnezzar's great image in Daniel 2 underwent two major reversals of interpretation. From at least 1882, it represented successive Gentile world powers: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. In 1886, the clay mixed with iron was identified with the union of church and state, while the toes represented divisions of Roman power. This interpretation continued into the 1920s. In 1927, the entire image was already described as Satan's empire, but the individual metals still represented successive historical empires. In 1930, this historical identification was explicitly rejected: the image became Satan's complete organization, with Satan as its golden head, subordinate demon princes represented by silver, wicked angels by copper, earthly political powers by iron, and religion and clergy by clay. This interpretation was repeated from 1931 through 1957. In 1958, the interpretation was reversed again. The image returned to representing successive historical world powers, and the golden head became the Babylonian royal dynasty rather than Satan. The clay was now associated with democratization, socialism, and popular participation in government rather than principally with the clergy. The restored historical interpretation continued through 2000, with the iron legs representing Rome and its Anglo-American political successor. Publications in 1959 already identified the ten toes with all coexisting political governments, and this explanation was repeated in 1990 and 1999. No further fundamental reversal was verified through 2000.

Key moments
- 1882 Introduced The image represented successive Gentile world governments: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. The divided Roman system would eventually be replaced by Messiah's Kingdom.
- 1886 Refined The four-empires interpretation continued. The Roman Empire survived through its European divisions, pictured by the ten toes. The clay mixed with iron was specifically identified as the union of church and state.
- 1927 Refined The entire image was explicitly identified with Satan's empire while its individual metals still symbolized successive historical political empires. This anticipated the organizational interpretation of 1930 but did not yet replace the historical meanings of the metals.
- 1930 Reversal A fundamental reversal rejected the earlier succession-of-empires interpretation. The image was identified with the hierarchy of Satan's entire organization: Satan as its head, demon princes beneath him, subordinate wicked angels, and earthly political and religious institutions.
- 1958 Reversal The interpretation was fundamentally reversed. The image again represented successive historical empires instead of the hierarchical structure of Satan's invisible and visible organization. The golden head was identified with Nebuchadnezzar's Babylonian dynasty. The iron-and-clay mixture was now applied to the political effects of democratization, socialism, and popular participation in government.
- 2012 Refined Rome was distinguished as the iron legs, with Anglo-America developing from it in the feet and toes. The seventh world power’s emergence was placed in the British-American wartime partnership during World War I, rather than in Britain’s eighteenth-century rise.
- 2012 Refined The iron-and-clay feet were applied specifically to the Anglo-American World Power. The clay represented popular and other weakening elements within its sphere. No separate prophetic significance was assigned to a count of ten toes; Anglo-America was expected to remain dominant until the Kingdom’s intervention.

The image represented successive Gentile world governments: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. The divided Roman system would eventually be replaced by Messiah's Kingdom.
1 quote
God indicated that the government of earth was given over to depravity's rule, and pictures it to Nebuchadnezzar as A GREAT IMAGE illustrative of human power, divided into four parts, Nebuchadnezzar's government representing the head; the succeeding, Medo-Persian government represented by the breast and arms; and the belly and thighs representing the third or Grecian government; while the fourth and last part, the legs and feet represent the last phase of earthly government, the Roman Empire, which, in a divided form, still continues, and is to be followed by Messiah's Kingdom--the kingdom of heaven, which "shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms [not people], and it shall stand forever."
The Watchtower, December 1, 1882 -
The four-empires interpretation continued. The Roman Empire survived through its European divisions, pictured by the ten toes. The clay mixed with iron was specifically identified as the union of church and state.
3 quotes
The iron empire, Rome, was by far the strongest, and endured longer than its predecessors. In fact, the Roman Empire still continues, as represented in the nations of Europe. This division is represented in the ten toes of the image. The clay element blended with the iron in the feet represents the mixture of church and state. This mixture is in the Scriptures termed “Babylon”—confusion.
The Divine Plan of the Ages, 1886 The iron empire, Rome, was by far the strongest, and endured longer than its predecessors. In fadt, the Roman Empire still continues, as represented in the nations of Europe. This division is represented in the ten toes of the image. The clay element blended with the iron in the feet represents the mixture of church and state. This mixture is in the Scriptures termed “Babylon”—confusion.
The Divine Plan of the Ages, 1886 This division is represented in the ten toes of the image. The clay element blended with the iron in the feet represents the mixture of church and state. This mixture is in the Scriptures termed “Babylon”—confusion. As we shall presently see, stone is the symbol of the true Kingdom of God, and Babylon substituted an imitation of stone—clay—which it has united with the fragmentary remains of the [iron] Roman empire.
The Divine Plan of the Ages, 1886 -
The Babylonian Empire was again identified as the golden head of earthly dominion.
1 quote
King Nebuchadnezzar just before this had won some great victories over surrounding nations--Egypt, Syria, etc.--as he had previously done with Judah, and as the Lord had predicted in the dream which Daniel had interpreted for the King, which showed the Babylonian Empire as the golden head of earthly dominion.
The Watchtower, July 1, 1899 -
The original historical interpretation remained unchanged, with the four successive Gentile kingdoms governing during Israel's period of subjection.
1 quote
That national humiliation of Israel began with their subjection to Babylon and, through the prophet Daniel, God foretold that it should be continued under the successive Gentile kingdoms of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome.
The Eternal Purpose, 1906 -
The image continued to symbolize four consecutive empires, beginning with Babylon and ending with Rome.
2 quotes
While it stood erect, a stone was taken from the mountain and hurled at the image, striking it on the feet. Forthwith the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver and the gold were crushed to powder and became as the chaff of a summer’s threshing floor, and the wind carried them away. By Divine illumination, Daniel, the Prophet, explained the vision thus: The head represented Nebuchadnezzar’s own universal Empire, Babylon.
Bible Students Monthly, 1909 The breast and arms of silver represented the kingdom which would succeed his as a universal empire; namely, the kingdom of the Medes and Persians.
Bible Students Monthly, 1909 -
The image still represented Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. Its iron-and-clay feet were identified with the Holy Roman Empire.
2 quotes
The king had dreamed of a great image, the head of which represented the Babylonian kingdom; the breast of silver, the Medo-Persian kingdom; the belly and thighs of brass, the Grecian kingdom; the legs of iron, the Roman Empire.
The Watchtower, September 1, 1914 Daniel showed the king the dream, which the monarch had forgotten, and gave him the interpretation. The king had dreamed of a great image, the head of which represented the Babylonian kingdom; the breast of silver, the Medo-Persian kingdom; the belly and thighs of brass, the Grecian kingdom; the legs of iron, the Roman Empire. The "Holy" Roman Empire was represented in the feet, part of clay and part of iron.

A posthumously published collection of Russell's sermons repeated the previous interpretation. The feet represented Papal Rome, with clay depicting ecclesiastical involvement in political government.
1 quote
The vision was of a stupendous image. Its head of gold represented Nebuchadnezzarʹs Empire—Babylon. Its breasts and arms of silver represented the Medo‐Persian Empire. Its belly and thighs of brass represented the Grecian Empire. Its strong legs of iron represented the Roman Empire, East and West. Its feet of iron and clay represented Papal Rome.
Pastor Russell's Sermons, 1917 -
The image was explicitly described as representing empires of government, corresponding to the four beasts of Daniel 7.
1 quote
This was seen in a dream by the king of Babylon, and the inspired interpretation by the Prophet Daniel explains that it represented empires of government.
The Golden Age, May 26, 1920 -
The historical interpretation continued without alteration, explicitly listing Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome as the metals of the image.
1 quote
And under divine guidance he told how the golden head of the great image which the king had seen was a picture of the Babylonian Empire; the silver breast and arms pictured the Medo-Persian government; the brass belly and thighs the Empire of Grecia; and the legs of iron represented Imperial Rome.
The Golden Age, March 2, 1921 -
The four historical empires continued to define the image. Its destruction by the stone was associated with the disintegration of European nations following 1914.
1 quote
By a careful study of Biblical history and prophecy this period of Gentile times has been found to be 2,520 years, having its beginning in 606 B. C-, and thus ending in 1914 A. D. From 606 B. C. four universal empires have held sway; namely, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome.
The Golden Age, September 26, 1923 -
The entire image was explicitly identified with Satan's empire while its individual metals still symbolized successive historical political empires. This anticipated the organizational interpretation of 1930 but did not yet replace the historical meanings of the metals.
2 quotes
Jesus could not have failed to recognize the fact that the great image which Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream represented Satan’s empire.
The Golden Age, November 16, 1927 He knew that the head of gold was identified by Daniel as the Babylonian empire; he no doubt knew that the Medo-Persian empire was represented by the arms and breast of silver, and the Grecian empire by the belly and thighs of brass, and that He was then living in the days of the fourth or Roman empire, pictured in the image ' by the legs of iron.
The Golden Age, November 16, 1927 -
The image still portrayed successive Gentile powers, though Satan was described as the invisible influence behind their governments.
1 quote
With Satan as the power behind the thrones of Gentile dominion there could not be other than a steady deterioration in the quality of the successive Gentile world powers down to today.
The Watchtower, January 1, 1929 -
A fundamental reversal rejected the earlier succession-of-empires interpretation. The image was identified with the hierarchy of Satan's entire organization: Satan as its head, demon princes beneath him, subordinate wicked angels, and earthly political and religious institutions.
4 quotes
The Watch Tower publications, having no better explanation, practically adopted the foregoing interpretation. There are some good reasons why the above interpretation of the prophecy is not correct, and these are, to wit: 20 (1) That the true meaning of the terrible image could not be understood by any of those whom Daniel represented until after the coming of the Lord to his temple.
The Watchtower, August 1, 1930 The image was great and terrible because it was in opposition to Jehovah and was the picture of complete wickedness. The image pictured Satan’s organization, of which the wicked one is the head. Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had the dream, and it was appropriate to use him and his dream to make this picture to be recorded in the Bible and which discloses Satan’s organization and fully identifies it in God’s due time.
The Watchtower, August 15, 1930 The word “after” does not have reference to time, but rather to inferiority, or station below Satan in his organization.
Light, Book Two, 1930 These invisible princes or rulers in Satan’s organization are shown as a part of the terrible image; and as silver and copper are inferior or next in order to gold, therefore the image shows that, instead of these representing world powers, they represent lower orders than Lucifer in the great organization.
Light, Book Two, 1930 -
The new interpretation was reiterated: the image represented Satan's organization in its visible and invisible components.
1 quote
That terrible image pictured or represented Satan’s organization, both that which is invisible and that which is visible to man and which for sixty centuries has oppressed the human race.
The Watchtower, January 15, 1931 -
The invisible and visible organization interpretation continued, with copper linked to wicked spirit creatures and iron to oppressive human government.
1 quote
This is corroborated by the prophecy of the Great Image showing that wicked spirits and wicked men have ruled the world and that this earthly rule of iron has been and is harsh and selfish and cruel.
The Watchtower, February 1, 1934 -
The organization interpretation remained in force. Gold represented Satan, silver represented subordinate demon princes, copper represented wicked angels, and iron represented earthly political domination.
2 quotes
In the prophecy of Daniel 2: 31-45 description is given of a “great image”, which is a picture of Satan’s organization and the various elements thereof by which he has ruled the world.
The Watchtower, December 15, 1941 “Copper” of the image symbolizes the wicked angels or demons that operate by Satan’s direction, and which, as the prophecy states, “bear rule over all the earth.”
The Watchtower, December 15, 1941

The 1930 interpretation was maintained and explicitly contrasted with the rejected succession-of-empires explanation. Satan remained the golden head, the invisible demon princes and demons were represented by the silver and copper, political rulers by iron, and religion and clergy by clay.
5 quotes
The image of the dream represents Satan's organization as a whole, invisible and visible, and including "the god of this world" himself.
The Kingdom Is at Hand, 1944 Satan the Devil is the golden head of the image, pretending to be divine, and aiming to "be like the Most High".
The Kingdom Is at Hand, 1944 The miry clay, therefore, pictures religion and its clergy, which religion pretends to be Christianity and which clergy palm themselves off as representatives of God's kingdom.
The Kingdom Is at Hand, 1944 The ten toes of the image picture the complete number or all of the religious-political governments of men at the time of such climax.
The Kingdom Is at Hand, 1944 Instead of this dream’s representing a succession of world empires, It pictures Satan’s entire world or kosmos, composed of both the heavens and the earth which he organized since the flood, “the heavens and the earth, which are now.” (2 Peter 3:7) It is all one organization from head to foot. Its destruction means the world’s end. Satan the Devil is the golden head of the image, pretending to be divine, and ai ing to “be like the Most High”.
Consolation, October 11, 1944 -
The image was still understood as Satan's organization and its rule, destined to be ended by Christ's Kingdom.
1 quote
In the second year of his reign in this special capacity the dream showing the end of Satan’s organization and rule and the taking over of power by Christ’s kingdom came to Nebuchadnezzar, as recorded at chapter 2.
Equipped for Every Good Work, 1946 -
The image continued to depict the organization of Satan that would be destroyed by Christ's Kingdom.
1 quote
After this introduction that gave full credit to Jehovah God, Daniel revealed the king’s dream of the terrible image that was struck by a stone and destroyed, and in the interpretation thereof showed it was a forecast of Christ’s kingdom smashing Satan’s organization, saying: “In the days of those kings the God of the heavens shall set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people; it shall break in pieces and annihilate all these kingdoms, but it shall stand forever.”
The Watchtower, October 1, 1949 -
The image was still destined for destruction at Armageddon. The stone cut from the mountain symbolized God's Kingdom established in 1914, while its crushing of the image was expected at Armageddon.
1 quote
In the prophetic picture of Nebuchadnezzar’s image, the cutting of the stone out of the mountain without hands foreshadowed the Kingdom’s coming into existence or being established in 1914; while its coming against the image and grinding it into powder would constitute the complete expression of the Kingdom’s coming at Armageddon.—Dan. 2:31-45.
The Watchtower, August 1, 1952 -
The image was still associated with Satan's world organization. This is a verified repetition immediately preceding the major reversal of 1958.
1 quote
Since that time Satan has built up a powerful worldly organization, which was described by Daniel as being like a great image with a head of gold, breast and arms of silver, belly and thighs of brass, legs of iron and feet partly of iron and partly of clay.
The Watchtower, August 15, 1957 -
The interpretation was fundamentally reversed.

This could not be the right understanding or interpretation of the meaning of the metallic image, because Daniel and his three companions are no part of an organization that is doomed to suffer the destruction of the dream image. 17 No! That symbolic image is not a static picture with prophetic properties in only its lower parts. It is progressive and prophetic from head to foot, and what happens to it is also prophetic.
Your Will Be Done on Earth, 1958 That symbolic image is not a static picture with prophetic properties in only its lower parts. It is progressive and prophetic from head to foot, and what happens to it is also prophetic. Nebuchadnezzar personally is not represented somewhere low down in the image, somewhere in the legs of iron. He could not be down there and at the same time be the head of the image.
Your Will Be Done on Earth, 1958 As king of kings in the Babylonian world power by the permission of the God of heaven, who permitted him to destroy both Jerusalem and its sanctuary, Nebuchadnezzar is the golden head of the symbolic image. 18 He is the head of gold as he is the head of a dynasty of rulers over the Babylonian Empire. So the golden head in fact symbolizes the dynasty of the Babylonian world power beginning with Nebuchadnezzar. The Bible itself mentions two others in that dynasty, namely, Evil-merodach and Belshazzar.
Your Will Be Done on Earth, 1958 However, a mingling of rulers or political heads with the “seed of men” would mean a combining with one another and producing a political offspring; or it would mean a popularizing, a democratizing or a socializing of the forms of government.
Your Will Be Done on Earth, 1958 -
The restored interpretation was repeated. The metals represented Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and Rome's Anglo-American successor. The ten toes were explicitly identified with all contemporary political powers and governments, using ten as a symbol of earthly completeness.
3 quotes
This was the “kingdom” or world power of the Medes and Persians. The expression “After you” refers to time, and reminds Nebuchadnezzar that another rulership will succeed his dynasty to the world’s domination.
The Watchtower, May 1, 1959 The number ten being a Biblical number symbolizing earthly completeness, the ten toes picture all such coexisting powers and governments.
The Watchtower, May 15, 1959 The sixth world power, the Roman, was not the only world power symbolized by the iron legs. Within the centuries of existence of the ironlike system of world power there arose the greatest and mightiest in all the line of march. This was the seventh world power, which was foretold in Bible prophecy.
The Watchtower, May 15, 1959 -
The successive-kingdoms interpretation continued in the Bible-study reference work, with Babylon as the golden head and three further kingdoms represented by the lower parts.
1 quote
There is the vision of the dreadful image, whose head of gold represents the king of Babylon, after whom three other kingdoms rise, as pictured in the other parts of the image.
All Scripture Is Inspired of God and Beneficial, 1963 -
The historical sequence from Babylon through Anglo-America remained unchanged. The iron legs included both Rome and the Anglo-American World Power, while the final feet represented contemporary divided governments.
3 quotes
In his dream the king of Babylon saw the representation of a continuous series of political world powers, from the Babylonian World Power of Nebuchadnezzar's dynasty down to and including the Biblically Seventh World Power, the Anglo-American World Power of our twentieth century.
Man's Salvation Out of World Distress at Hand!, 1975 The silver breasts and arms symbolized the succeeding Medo-Persian World Power. The copper belly and thighs symbolized the Macedonian-Grecian World Power. The iron legs symbolized the Roman World Power and the outgrowth therefrom, the British-American Dual World Power. The feet partly of iron and partly of clay symbolized the present-day or final governmental powers that have become partly radical (socialistic; communistic) or partly imperial.
Man's Salvation Out of World Distress at Hand!, 1975 The succession of world powers that began with the Babylonian and ran down through the Medo-Persian, the Grecian, the Roman and the Anglo-American, was pictured as a large, unusually bright image of several materials, with feet of iron and of clay.

The historical succession remained unchanged. The clay mixed with iron was explicitly interpreted as the offspring of mankind, especially the common people whose growing political influence challenged traditional authoritarian government.
3 quotes
Daniel explained that the head of gold represented Nebuchadnezzar, or, by extension, the dynasty of Babylonian rulers that began with Nebuchadnezzar.
The Watchtower, July 1, 1977 Daniel explained that the head of gold represented Nebuchadnezzar, or, by extension, the dynasty of Babylonian rulers that began with Nebuchadnezzar. (Dan. 2:37, 38) The silver breasts and arms pictured the succeeding world power of Medo-Persia. The copper belly and thighs depicted "another kingdom, a third one [counting from Babylon]." (Dan. 2:39) This was the Grecian World Power. The next part of the image, the iron legs, initially represented Rome.
The Watchtower, July 1, 1977 What does it picture in the light of our modern day? Daniel's explanation says for our illumination: "They will come to be mixed with the offspring of mankind; but they will not prove to be sticking together, this one to that one, just as iron is not mixing with molded clay." Accordingly, the molded clay symbolizes "the offspring of mankind," or, literally, 'the seed of men.'—Daniel 2:43.
Our Incoming World Government—God's Kingdom, 1977 -
The various metals still represented successive human world governments, eventually to be replaced by God's Kingdom.
1 quote
The various metals in this image represented a series of world governments that would develop on the earthly scene down through the centuries, to be followed by the reestablishment of God's sovereignty in the earth by the Kingdom rule of his Son, Christ Jesus.
The Watchtower, June 15, 1978 -
The image continued to represent Babylon and its successor empires, with the iron legs extending into the modern Anglo-American World Power.
1 quote
Daniel made known to Nebuchadnezzar that its head of gold stood for the "king" of Babylon, and that the lower parts of its body represented other kingdoms that would arise after Babylon.
Let Your Kingdom Come!, 1981 -
The image continued to represent successive world powers. Iron and clay illustrated incompatible contemporary political systems, particularly authoritarian regimes and more democratic forms of government.
2 quotes
There follow other world powers, the silver breasts and arms standing for Medo-Persia, the copper belly and thighs for Greece, and the iron legs for Rome and, later, the world power of Britain and America.
The Watchtower, July 1, 1985 However, it is "in the final part of the days" that "the offspring of mankind," the common man, comes to the fore. In many lands kings, kaisers, and czars are replaced by revolutionary and democratic rulers. Human misrule of the earth becomes a hodgepodge of harsh dictatorships and more pliable democratic forms of government.
The Watchtower, July 1, 1985 -
The successive-world-powers interpretation was restated, with Nebuchadnezzar and his royal dynasty represented by the golden head.
2 quotes
What did it all mean? Daniel tells the king that the parts of the image represent world powers that will follow one another. Many religious scholars agree with the point made in a Bible encyclopedia that says: "The central truth of (Daniel chapter 2) is that some day the kingdom of God will supersede all human empires." When will that day come?
The Watchtower, November 15, 1986 "You, O king, the king of kings, you to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the might, and the strength and the dignity, . . . you yourself are the head of gold." Thus, the head represented King Nebuchadnezzar and the dynasty of kings that began with him.—Daniel 2:37, 38.
The Watchtower, November 15, 1986 -
The reference work Insight on the Scriptures reaffirmed that the image represented world domination and that the head specifically identified the Babylonian dynasty.
2 quotes
The entire image was crushed to powder by a stone cut out of a mountain, the stone thereafter filling the entire earth.—Da 2:31-35. What is the meaning of the parts of the dream image seen by Nebuchadnezzar? The image obviously relates to domination of the earth and Jehovah God's purpose regarding such domination. This is made clear in Daniel's inspired interpretation.
Insight on the Scriptures, Volume 1, 1988 Since the other body parts represented kingdoms, the head evidently represented the dynasty of Babylonian kings from Nebuchadnezzar down till Babylon's fall in the time of King Nabonidus and his son Belshazzar.—Da 2:37, 38.
Insight on the Scriptures, Volume 1, 1988 -
The image continued to represent human world government. The ten toes were described as the entirety of political governments opposing divine sovereignty during the time of the end, repeating the identification already given in 1959.
2 quotes
Thus, the image seen by Nebuchadnezzar well pictured how human rule would continue to be exercised in opposition to divine sovereignty even after his kingdom ended.
Awake!, November 22, 1990 So political human rule in its entirety, unitedly opposed to divine sovereignty during the time of the end, is what the ‘ten toes’ of the image would logically represent.
Awake!, November 22, 1990

The image continued to represent successive political world powers. The feet and toes represented all political governments existing during the time of the end, including authoritarian regimes and governments influenced by the common people.
3 quotes
The four world powers represented by the four metals of Nebuchadnezzar's dream were the Babylonian Empire (gold head), MedoPersia (silver breasts and arms), Greece (copper belly and thighs), and the Roman Empire (iron legs).
Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy!, 1999 The ten toes of the image represent all such coexisting powers and governments, for in the Bible the number ten at times signifies earthly completeness.—Compare Exodus 34:28; Matthew 25:1; Revelation 2:10.
Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy!, 1999 Some of the governments pictured by the image's feet and toes of iron mixed with clay are ironlike authoritarian or tyrannical. Others are claylike.
Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy!, 1999 -
The interpretation was repeated without change: the iron legs represented Rome and the Anglo-American World Power.
1 quote
However, the iron legs of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream image pictured not only the Roman Empire but also its political outgrowth—the Anglo-American World Power.
The Watchtower, May 15, 2000 -
Rome was distinguished as the iron legs, with Anglo-America developing from it in the feet and toes. The seventh world power’s emergence was placed in the British-American wartime partnership during World War I, rather than in Britain’s eighteenth-century rise.
1 quote
Daniel’s description of the metal image conveys the idea that the Anglo-American World Power would emerge from, rather than conquer, Rome.
The Watchtower, June 15, 2012, p. 19, Questions From Readers -
The iron-and-clay feet were applied specifically to the Anglo-American World Power. The clay represented popular and other weakening elements within its sphere. No separate prophetic significance was assigned to a count of ten toes; Anglo-America was expected to remain dominant until the Kingdom’s intervention.
1 quote
The clay, therefore, represents elements within the sphere of influence of the Anglo-American World Power, elements that make it weaker than the solid iron of the Roman Empire.
The Watchtower, June 15, 2012, pp. 14–18, Jehovah Reveals What “Must Shortly Take Place”, pars. 7–11 -
The feet remained the Anglo-American alliance weakened by internal popular divisions. The article explicitly ruled out replacement by another world power before the Kingdom’s intervention, while allowing challenges from other nations.
1 quote
Second, this alliance will be the last world power to rule before God’s Kingdom puts an end to all human kingdoms. Even though other nations may at times challenge the Anglo-American World Power, they will not replace it.
