Origins: Adventist Roots (1848–1877)
The Adventist background from which the Bible Student movement grew. George Storrs taught that the soul is not immortal and published The Bible Examiner, where the young Russell printed his first article on prophetic chronology (1876). N. H. Barbour's Herald of the Morning first set out the 1874/1914 chronology that Russell adopted; Russell co-published with Barbour until they parted in 1879 and he founded Zion's Watch Tower. J. H. Paton's Day Dawn was distributed by Russell in those first years.
These works were not published by the Watch Tower Society; see the Related Works section page for why they are in this library.
